Project Description
Manual Therapy
Manual Therapy is a clinical approach based on skilled “hands on” therapy to decrease pain and improve the mobility of joints, soft tissues and nerves.
At Avon Chiropractic Healthcare, our Chiropractors have highly developed manual therapy skills acquired during their studies, through further postgraduate training and through years of experience in general practice.
Manual Therapy is used to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of symptoms and conditions.
Chiropractors will usually combine manual therapy with exercise prescription and rehabilitation and advice to lead to a rapid and more complete recovery of your function.
Benefits of Manual Therapy:
- Modulate pain
Increase mobility to stiff joints and range of motion
- Improve tissue repair
Improve tissue stability and extensibility
- Reduce soft-tissue inflammation
- Reduce muscle tension
- Induce relaxation
- Facilitate movement and exercise therapy
Manual Therapy Techniques
Manual joints mobilisation or manipulation
Their aim is to increase joint mobility and a pain-free range of movement as well as a better circulation within the joint.
Joint mobilisations are skilled passive movements of varied intensities and amplitudes applied to a joint.
Joint manipulations are a passive movement with high velocity and low amplitude applied to a joint.
Manual soft tissues therapy
Manual Therapy of the soft tissues is the application of manual pressure to the skin, muscles and tendons, ligaments and fascia. The most common soft tissue manual techniques are:
- Deep tissue massage, sports and therapeutic massage, manual lymphatic drainage
- Muscle Energy techniques
Myofascial Release address the restrictions in the fascia. Fascia is a web of connective tissue covering and connecting the muscles, joints and organs within the whole body
Trigger points release. Myofascial trigger points (MTPs) are focal areas of tenderness within a muscle belly which usually respond to a referred pain at the distance of the point
Neural mobilisation is the mobilisation and gliding of the nerves
Visceral Manipulation is a gentle manual technique to encourage the normal mobility of the internal organs and their connective tissue
